Gouvia Holiday
Gouvia is close to Corfu Town on the east coast of the island. Its proximity to the capital makes it very popular with day trippers, who come to admire the resort and enjoy the restaurants, tavernas, cafés, bars and shops. Gouvia is built around a deep, natural bay with two long promontories either side, giving it a secluded feel. The bay boasts several sand and shingle beaches in delightful coves, with watersports and facilities on offer. There is a good nightlife with plenty of tavernas, bars and discos offering everything from live fish for supper to live music for dancing. If a holiday in Greece requires both a decent beach and good nightlife, then Gouvia might fit the bill for you.
Gouvia used to be a Venetian naval base and the ruins of a Venetian military storeroom can still be found on the beach. Nowadays, the resort is a base for Corfu's rich and famous - there is a large marina full of impressive yachts. Why not spend an afternoon in one of the many quayside cafés watching the ships sail in and the people walk by? Sharing the bay with Gouvia is Kontokali to the south - a quiet village with an equally nautical feel. There are more tavernas, restaurants and bars to enjoy here, although they may have a less cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Beaches
Gouvia has man-made pebble and shingle beaches, suitable for everybody. Bathing is very safe and the beachfront offers a huge variety of watersports, from paragliding to banana boats. Nearby Dassia has even more on offer.
Shopping
Gouvia offers an excellent selection of local souvenirs, leather goods, jewellery and clothes as well as numerous mini markets. Its shopping is rivaled only by Corfu Town.
Nightlife
Gouvia boasts an excellent selection of music bars and discos to revel in after the sun goes down. Sports bars are particularly popular, so don't worry about missing an important football match while you're away.

There's a great range of typically Greek tavernas and a superb selection of international restaurants to dine in. Whether you prefer lobster or lasagne, you'll be catered for here.
