Opatija Holiday
Established in the 12th century and named after an old Benedictine 'opatija' - abbey - the town has been welcoming the rich and famous, the artistic and aristocratic, since the days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Lungomare - a 12 kilometre promenade extending elegantly beside the seafront - serves as a man-made beach with breathtaking views and plenty of swimming spots. The large lido in the town's centre is a comfortable alternative, with sunloungers and freeform pools.

opatija offers an excellent selection of shops, ranging from elegant boutiques selling designer clothes to souvenir stalls proffering pretty gifts. Spend a lazy afternoon window shopping and treat yourself to a special reminder of your Croatian holiday.
Nightlife
Start your evenings in Opatija with a sunset walk along the Lungomare promenade, which stretches 12 kilometres along the seafront. Passing the marina of Icici and a small pebbly beach, its a wonderful way to soak up the views and inhale the fresh, sea air for which Opatija is renowned. Later, there are a few nightclubs and discos, plenty of bars and even a small casino. Live music on the terraces, as well as the summer open air cinema/theatre in the heart of Opatija's botanical gardens, are very popular.
