Cuba Holiday

Cuba is an intoxicating palette of swirling colors infused with the pulsing Latin beats of sensual salsa and rhythmic rumba. Renowned for its swathes of golden sands, it's a haven for rest and relaxation. Cuba also offers a fascinating insight as one of the world's last surviving Communist countries, little influenced by American culture. Its sumptuous capital, Havana, is one of the finest examples of a Spanish colonial city in the Americas.

Lavish palaces, brightly-colored houses and 1950's Cadillacs evoke memories of pre-Revolution Cuba. Its landscape is just as spectacular boasting soaring mountain peaks reaching towards powdery blue skies and verdant tropical flora. Cuba combines a decadent nostalgia with unparalleled natural beauty and makes for an intriguing yet relaxing getaway.

Cuba Holiday - Beaches

The main beach resort is Varadero, a peninsula bordered by the deep blue waters of the Atlantic. The sand is soft, golden and warmed by the brilliant Caribbean sun. Palm trees line the beach providing some welcome shade. For some old-style beach time, Baracoa, founded in 1512, is Cuba's oldest European settlement. Lying under the palms you'll be able to catch a glimpse of some impressive Spanish forts that hint at the island's colorful Hispanic past.

Shopping

There's an array of souvenirs to choose from‚ including pottery‚ wood-carvings‚ coins and, of course, the cigars for which Cuba is famous. Rolled by hand and full of Caribbean flavor, enjoy one on the beach with a glass of delectable rum whilst contemplating the wonderful vistas.

Nightlife

Music is at the very heart of Cuba and the vibrant nightlife reflects this, with salsa bars, cabaret shows and nightclubs focusing on the lively rhythms of this upbeat country. Havana is undoubtedly the party hotspot, and you'll be treated to a real taste of culture, as well as a few lessons, if you venture into one of the many salsa bars and clubs that line the streets. The nightlife of Santiago de Cuba, the island's second city, is also a colorful melting pot of Latin melodies and Caribbean sound.

Local Specialties

The food in Cuba is based on the many varieties of fish that the surrounding seas supply in abundance. Add steaming rice, refried beans and crunchy vegetables and you'll have a typical stew. For some real Cuban flavors try the delicious rum-based cocktails. The 'mojito' is a particular favorite - a sugary blast with a mint and lime zing that will really give you a boost. For a quieter night sample some of the fine local coffee whilst you draw on your Cuban cigar.
