El Quseir Holiday
El Quseir was the largest port in the Red Sea until the 10th century but is now a sleepy town with a charming atmosphere and tiny harbour where fishing boats bob about on the gentle waves. Unaffected by tourism, El Quseir is a reminder of North Africa from a bygone age. Donkey carts trot past hauntingly beautiful mosques and locals wearing traditional turbans socialise with a shisha pipe. Visit El Quseir if you're looking for a touch of rustic Egypt and plenty of opportunities to relax in stunning surroundings.
Beaches
The small but gorgeous sandy beach in El Quseir is lined with a few colourful cafes that offer delicious food at very reasonable prices. Other beaches along this stretch of coastline are unspoilt, powdery swathes of white sand that wouldn't look out of place on a postcard.
Shopping
There is a variety of shopping available in El Quseir, ranging from grocery stores to tourist stalls selling trinkets and souvenirs.
Nightlife
Nightlife is entirely hotel-based and revolves around long, lazy dinners and traditional Egyptian or Tunisian evenings.
Local Specialities
Look out for seafood restaurants throughout the town. The catch of the day is always fresh, and cheap enough that you can eat to your heart's content for just a few pounds. Finish your meal like the locals with sweet black tea and a shisha pipe. Popular drinks here are 'kakardi', hibiscus juice, which is good for reducing blood pressure and 'sahlabe', a tasty mixture of milk, flour, coconut and sugar.
