Ischia Holiday
Ischia is known throughout Italy as 'the green isle', with its sweeping forests of pine and chestnuts, citrus groves and vineyards, and the subtropical La Mortella gardens, once the home of English composer Sir William Walton. Its hidden beauty lies in the hot springs and thermal spa complexes found across the island and in the hotels. There's now a resurgence of British interest in Ischia - the combination of laid-back nightlife, fine hotel standards and the luxury of the many spas is an opportunity not to be missed.
Ischia has long been a magnet for artists, writers and musicians and the island's lush countryside and relaxed pace of life provide a rich source of inspiration. Brightly coloured bougainvillea makes for the perfect contrast to the charming little whitewashed villages that dot the hillsides. So stunning is Ischia's scenery that it was used as a backdrop for parts of the film, The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Beaches
The island has some wonderful sandy beaches stretching around its coastline. Among the most beautiful are Cartaromana which has soft, golden sand and the secluded San Montano Bay. The volcanic depths provide some fascinating underwater sights.
Shopping
Ischia has a pleasant blend of quaint shops and fashionable boutiques selling everything from designer jewellery to olive oil. The best places for shopping on the island are in Ischia Town itself.
Nightlife
Whether you prefer the charm and sophistication of cabaret, or the fun and laughter of karaoke, whether it's loud pop music or chilled jazz that gets your toes tapping, you'll find it all in Ischia.
Local Specialities
There are plenty of high quality, good value restaurants on the island. Seafood is particularly popular, and recommended dishes include spaghetti with shellfish and grilled squid.
