Sorrento Holiday
Sorrento is a pretty, tree-shaded resort set within the Bay of Naples with an abundance of lemon groves, a jumble of brightly-coloured boats drawn up in the harbour and stunning views. Once you succumb to Sorrento's vibrant and lively charm, you'll count the days until you can return.
At the heart of Sorrento is a labyrinth of cobbled, winding streets which date back to medieval times. A stroll through the old quarter of the town reveals an array of small antique shops and excellent restaurants which specialise in Neapolitan cuisine. Life revolves around the main square, Piazza Tasso, which is the ideal spot to sip a cappuccino and watch the world go by. The square overlooks the picturesque harbour of Marina Piccola where you can take a relaxing boat trip over to the elegant islands of Capri and Ischia. Sorrento's principle shopping street, the Corso Italia, brims with designer boutiques and elegant shops.
Beaches
The dramatic cliffs of the Neapolitan Riviera give way to sunbathing platforms and the occasional small pebble beach. A boat trip to Capri or Ischia offers more opportunity for sunbathing and swimming in the clear Mediterranean waters.
Shopping
Sorrento offers plenty of souvenir shops. For typical gifts from the region, look out for beautiful inlaid woodwork, music boxes, handmade lace and straw-pleating. Take home some of the regional delicacies: salami, smoked mozzarella cheese, olives and wine. There is a weekly market (dependent upon the weather).
Nightlife
In July, Sorrento has a season of classical concerts, some of which may be performed outdoors under the summer stars or in the cloisters of San Francesco. There are also a few discos, piano bars and cinemas with films dubbed in Italian.
Wedding Packages
The Neapolitan Riviera is the perfect location for your special day. Famed for its romance and relaxed atmosphere, it is the ideal choice for your wedding setting. Wedding packages are available from all hotels (excluding those on the islands of Capri and Ischia). The ceremony can take place at a number of locations including Sorrento (either at the town hall or at Cloisters of San Francesco of Cloisters of Santa Maria della Grazie for an extra charge), Meta di Sorrento, Piano di Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano, Maiori, Minori and Ravello town halls.
Local Specialities
Dining out in Sorrento is a delight, especially if you love tasting Italian regional specialities. Eating places range from pizzerias offering a quick meal, to more relaxed seafood restaurants. Take a trip out of the resort to the hills beyond to discover some of the best in Italian country cooking.
