Lindos Holiday

Visiting Lindos is like walking into a painting. Brilliant white houses climb the hill from the bay to the clifftop ruins of the acropolis, affording - literally - breathtaking views. The prettiest village on the island, it is the focus of millions of photographs. Previously inhabited by Romans, Byzantines, Turks and Italians, a delicious melange of influences, indicated by the acropolis, the medieval walls, the tiny, cobbled streets and the architecture can be admired. A Greek national treasure, the only methods of transportation are motorbikes and donkeys. As the resort is completely surrounded by hills, July and August tend to be notably hotter than elsewhere on the island. Just three kilometres away from Lindos, Pefkos should hardly be considered remote - yet it seems a world away from the bustle of its bigger neighbour. Here, the picturesque location contributes to an air of relaxation among new friends.

Beaches

Down at sea level, a sheltered sand-and-shingle beach slopes into the sea; its excellent watersports make it very popular and crowded in high season. There's a quieter beach at St Paul's Bay 1km away - this bay is almost completely encircled by rocks, forming a large natural pool. Vlicha Bay is situated just outside Lindos and is the perfect spot for peace and relaxation. Its sand and shingle beach lines the horseshoe bay and there are a couple of shops, bars and restaurants.

Shopping

Finding places to shop in Lindos is easy, its cobbled streets are full of craft and souvenir shops and it also has a large selection of supermarkets available. Common items you can purchase include jewellery, leather sandals and traditional-style ceramics.

Nightlife

Lindos has many bars, restaurants and tavernas, some of which rest on each other's rooftops. Discos and chic clubs line the narrow streets (regulations control the noise levels). You can also try your hand at a spot of late-evening shopping.

Local Specialities

There are a wide variety of restaurants to suit all tastes, ranging from traditional cuisine to good-quality Italian, Mexican and Chinese. There are even several fast-food options open until the early hours of the morning. While visiting Lindos, a taste of one of the freshly made crêpes is a must and you can follow this local speciality with a refreshing iced coffee.
