Hammamet Holiday
Hammamet, 65km southeast of Tunis, combines a taste of North Africa with the facilities of a well-established, cosmopolitan resort, complete with a vast sandy beach and two golf courses. You can still immerse yourself in local culture by haggling in the Medina's souks, or visiting ancient Carthage or Tunis, the capital. Down on the golden sands, you'll find various watersports.
Beaches
The resort boasts a vast stretch of white, sandy beach which offers a range of watersports including windsurfing. Lifeguard beach patrols are in place during the summer making this a popular retreat for families.
Shopping
Pay a visit to the Medina's souks which offer a range of local wares, including jewellery and ceramics. Bartering is a way of life here, and is something that has to be experienced. If the bustle of street bartering is all too much, you can take a more relaxed browse around the various hotel shops which offer a similar range of goods.
Nightlife
For live entertainment or a disco, simply head for the hotels. Most of the bars in town close at midnight and are a great place to start the evenings entertainment, or to relax with a beer.
Local Specialities
Hammamet has some good restaurants and open-air terraces mainly concentrated around the resort centre. Here you will find a range of international cuisine on offer, as well as some traditional Tunisian favourites.
