Lido di Camaiore Holiday
Lido di Camaiore is a picturesque seaside resort in the heart of the Versilia coast of Tuscany, often called the Tuscan Riviera. Small, friendly and informal, its wide traffic-free promenade filled with shops, cafes and splendid restaurants overlooks its famous beach. Stretching for 4km between Marina di Pietrasanta and Viareggio, the golden sand slopes gently into the sea and is perfect for watersports or bathing. Behind the town, the green countryside rolls back to the fertile surrounding hills and the peaks of the Apuan Alps.
Quiet and charming, the superb beach and glorious countryside make Lido di Camaiore a particularly attractive resort. Its villas, delightful gardens, wide streets and beautiful squares with artistic fountains give it a slightly old-fashioned ambience and make exploring it a real pleasure. If you can tear yourself away from the beach, further delights await. Hire a car and the ancient and historic town of Camaiore is only 9km inland. Further on, the slopes of the Apuan Alps are sprinkled with charming old villages, many with breathtaking views of the coastline. And then, of course, there are the famous sights of Pisa and the Cinque Terre.
Beaches
The beach at Lido di Camaiore is what has made it one of the most popular resorts in Tuscany. Long and golden, it's a wonderful place for anyone who loves simply lying in the sun.
Shopping
Shopping in Lido di Camaiore is particularly enjoyable. As well as shops selling the normal holiday essentials, both the promenade and the town have small boutiques selling handmade goods. Popular buys are locally woven fabrics, toys, beautifully crafted toys, ceramics and artistic stained glass.
Nightlife
There are lots of bars and trattorias in Lido di Camaiore, as well as a theatre. With its reputation for peace and relaxation, however, the bars are quiet and welcoming rather than loud and busy. For a livelier evening, many visitors go to the nightclubs and pubs in Viareggio just down the coast, where venues like La Bussola are some of the most famous in all of Italy.
Local Specialities
The cuisine in Lido di Camaiore is typical of all Versilia, an area renowned for its home cooking. The coast specialises in sea food, whereas inland is known mostly for its traditional cooking. Some of the most recommended dishes are risotto con le seppie (rice with cuttle fish), cacciucco (fish served on toasted bread), zuppa di cozze (mussel soup), and all sorts of grilled fish.
