Hire A Motorhome And Discover Complete Flexibility

Now your adventure begins. We see couples who like to rent small motorhomes and set off not having a clue where they are going. Which is great isn’t it? Is this a good way to start a holiday? Not have a clue where you are going or anything??? Possibly not, but really, who cares? You can get a hire quote by phone or email! Now your adventure begins.

Owning your own motorhome is just a dream for most people and an impossible one at that! Hiring a motorhome is the next best thing and it has advantages over ownership too. Owning your own motorhome might not be all it’s cracked up to be, there’s a lot of bills on top of the initial cost. It’s really a much better option to rent one, well for most of us anyway.

In recent years we have seen many hire firms build their fleet from vehicles they rent out for their owners, i.e. the hire firm doesn’t own them at all. This means that they can ‘bulk buy’ the ‘hire or reward’ insurance that the owner needs, passing the savings onto the client in the way of cheaper rental costs. The downside of this is that it is not quite as easy to keep the motorhomes clean, tidy and are working 100% as they should. Without a rigorous check after all hirings, problems might not get spotted, for example.

Don’t be tempted by offers from a bloke down the pub who has got a motorhome he doesn’t use much. These are the owners who need to make a few extra quid because they aren’t their motorhome much and it is costing them money to keep it. To try and make some money they have decided to try and rent out their motorhome, sometimes illegally. This is because most of the time they do not have adequate insurance to allow them to hire the vehicle for a fee. Let’s just hope you don’t have an accident. Do you really need this extra stress just to save a few quid on motorhome hire?

It is becoming an increasingly popular pastime for skiers and snowboarders to hire a motorhome and head off for their winter sports holiday. Chilly? Not really, maybe on the piste but never inside their motorhome. Motorhomes have central heating systems powered by the gas supply or in some more models by their diesel heater that actually uses the same fuel as the engine. The temperature is regulated by a thermostat, so you don’t have to keep fiddling with the heater controls, if you set it for 19 Centigrade that is what the temperature will be.

There is no reason why you should ever feel cold in a motorhome. Windows have double glazed sealed units and the GRP body is well insulated even on the cheapest of motorhomes. Most motorhomes have a gas heater, some have a diesel heater. Diesel heaters are often considered to be superior to the gas systems, but both work very well.

Although not so common with UK motorhome hire companies, there are some large american RV style motorhomes that have had their enormous petrol engines converted to run on LPG (MotorhomeFreedom.com currently have a Damon Ultrasport for sale that is converted like this). LPG is about half the price of petrol. Whilst the conversion is being done and additional LPG tank can be fitted. LPG from the filling station can now be used for the heating system as well as powering the actual RV.

So are you ready for your first motorhome trip? Maybe you should try hiring a motorhome for just a weekend and see how you like it. If you are worried about finding somewhere to park up in towns, stay out of town and take your bikes with you, so you can use the motorhome as a base. Don’t worry about the time of year either, as we discussed above, staying warm is not a problem anymore. Motorhoming is addictive, once you have started doing it, it will be hard to stop. Holidays like this begin the moment you turn the ignition key.
